Galleria Continua at Le Moulin, France

Another fantastic exhibition during FIAC was an hour outside of Paris at Galleria Continua. The country-side warehouse venue housed stellar gigantic installations from an array of international artists. Although it was an hour drive from Paris, several hundred guests made it out in the rain for the VIP brunch.

This work is by Pascale Marthine Tayou and is made out of plastic bags. This work only took up 1/30th of the exhibition space.

Although Galleria Continua began in Italy, they have a 1,000 square meter space in Beijing. Their Beijing branch opened 5 years ago in 798 and has remained as one of the few strong galleries in the area.

Galleria Continua has worked with many exceptional Chinese artists, including Chen Zhen. He was a rising star in the international art scene when he suddenly passed away in 2000 at the young age of 45. He immigrated to Paris from Shanghai in 1986 and has lived and worked there since. The following two works were featured in their own room at the exhibition.

Burnt pages of books are stuffed then nailed underneath large wood planks. China has destroyed its past in order to catapult into the future, but at what expense?

Books have been burned and their ashes stuffed into the plastic containers. The ashes flank an amalgamation of wires and computer screens. What is obsolete?
